Each year, Rosa Negra took an inventory of her library. To accomplish this, she surrounded herself with a great many assistants, all of them book lovers, who combed through the stacks, arranged materials, and drew sketches of spaces and functions for visitors to enjoy reading.

There were reading rooms and conference rooms in which people from many countries would share their knowledge. Heated discussions were not uncommon, but if they made too much noise, Rosa Negra’s wolf would enter, frightening them a bit, and they would lower their voices. Everything would become peaceful from that point on.

On one of her strolls through the stacks, Rosa Negra approached a window and saw a passing cloud gliding gently through the sky. Suddenly she remembered: the California cloud, the one on the little pocket computer! She ran to her room, to the small suitcase where she still kept her treasure and opened the notebook computer. And she connected to Mathew in Silicon Valley.
